Antonio
Macchione
On December 10, 1954 Antonio Macchione landed in Canada with dreams of providing a better life for his family. He had no idea of the severe Canadian winters and arrived with a blazer and no winter coat, gloves, or hat. He worked relentlessly at numerous jobs to save enough money so his adoring wife Erminia and son Luigi could join him. Many days his hands were red and raw from labouring in the frigid cold.
He eventually landed a job in construction as a heavy machine operator and was able to give his family a modest but comfortable life, and a home abundant in love. He worked extremely hard, and as the sole bread winner took the utmost pride in providing for his family.
He took many of the traditions from Calabria with him and tended to his garden, made wine, sausage, tomato sauce, giardiniera and opened his home to his huge extended family. He was also an avid car buff who taught himself mechanics and could repair or tune up any heavy machinery, car or truck. He loved to do his own bodywork and took the utmost pride in his cars.
God saw Antonio suffering and called him home peacefully on July 27, 2022 at the age of 89. He will be forever missed by his loving wife and family, and is now reunited with his parents, son Luigi, and his brothers and sisters. He is cherished by his dear children, Connie (Patrick), Martino (Rose), and Joe (Sophie). Proud Nonno to Michael (Bailey), Felicia (Daniele) and their children Alessio and Chiara, Samantha (Julian), Melissa (Andrew), Michael (Sabrina) and their children Olivia and Meilani, Joseph, and Natalie (Jaleel) with their son Angel.
Antonio was an adoring great grandfather and dearly loved by all. His ready smile, kind eyes and hearty laugh endeared him to all he crossed paths with. Antonio will be forever cherished and held dear in the hearts of his family, relatives, and many friends. If so desired, donations in memory of Antonio Macchione may be made to Lymphoma Canada (lymphoma.ca).
